幾年后,，二戰(zhàn)爆發(fā)后,，他應(yīng)征入伍，成為法國(guó)在新加坡的秘密特工,，從事援助在中國(guó),、緬甸和法屬印度支那的抵抗運(yùn)動(dòng)（resistance movement in China, Myanmar and French Indochina）。但他不幸被捕,，被迫在戰(zhàn)俘營(yíng)苦役兩年,。

這段經(jīng)歷，也成為他以后另一部暢銷小說(shuō)《桂河大橋》（The Bridge on the River Kwai）的靈感來(lái)源,。

The first Planet of the Apes movie in 1968 was adapted from its namesake novel penned by the late French author Pierre Boulle, who was part of World War II. The experience inspired his two best-known novels, The Bridge on the River Kwai and Planet of the Apes.

如果說(shuō)《桂河大橋》是取材于真實(shí)經(jīng)歷,，刻畫(huà)了二戰(zhàn)戰(zhàn)俘遭遇,，對(duì)戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)和人性進(jìn)行反思，那么《人猿星球》本身所深蘊(yùn)的階層對(duì)立,、文明淪陷和人類自毀的深刻主題,，可以說(shuō)“深”在根上。

所以,，《人猿星球》于1968年問(wèn)世之后,，廣受歡迎。到1973年為止,，陸續(xù)又出了四部續(xù)集,。

此外，CBS還在這五部電影上映后,，播放了同名電視劇,。但電視劇并未像電影那樣受到好評(píng)，收視率也偏低,，最后就被砍掉了,。

而當(dāng)2001年好萊塢“怪才”蒂姆·波頓（Tim Burton）重拾這個(gè)故事，猩猩們的傳奇故事才又重回大屏幕,。但可惜的是,，這部影片雖然取得商業(yè)成功，卻在口碑上兩極分化,。

而到了2011年，手握版權(quán)的20世紀(jì)福斯又重啟這個(gè)題材,，有了新版的“猩球崛起”三部曲,，前兩部分別在2011年和2014年上映。
